The Etruscan civilization was a culture centered in the modern region of Tuscany, though it extended outwards to all of the current neighboring regions. Heavily influenced by the Greeks, the Etruscans were the main power in Central Italy prior to Roman domination. A series of cities dominated their neighbors, including Rome. It is believed that most of Rome’s king’s were Etruscan, and it was with the Etruscans, and the neighboring Latins, that the Romans first made war. Etruscan ruins include intact tombs and some stunning road networks in Tuscany and northern Lazio.
