Vespasian

The true successor to Nero after the Year of the Four Emperors, Titus Caesar Vespasianus (69 CE to 79 CE) was known as a capable administrator and reformer. The first of the Flavian dynasty (the cognomen of his family), he was a fiscal conservative, he reigned in the lavish spending of Nero’s reign, tearing down as much of the Domus Aurea as possible, while also initiating the building of the Flavian Amphitheater, now known as the Coliseum. He died of natural causes in 69 CE, famously stating “Dear me, I think I’m becoming a god.”
